Lotus Notes traveler error: Your certificate has expired

Out of the blue (while in fact I am on holiday) noone is able to connect to Lotus Traveler anymore(Lotus Client & web applications do not experience problems) The domino console is being spammed with messages like below:

Lotus Traveler: SEVERE CN=user/O=org Internal Error: Debug Data: Error on opening database path Database 'folder\file.nsf' on 'CN=server/O=org' PathName='CN=server/O=org!!folder\file.nsf'. Error(191c )=Your certificate has expired
25-08-2012 18:46:35 server/org from host [localIP:4731] failed to authenticate: Your certificate has expired
25-08-2012 18:46:35 Server server/org reported the following problem causing authentication to fail: Your certificate has expired
25-08-2012 18:46:35 Error connecting to server server/org: Server error: Your certificate has expired

25-08-2012 18:46:35 server/org from host [localIP:4732] failed to authenticate: Your certificate has expired

I have tried the following:
- re certify the traveler users (it would not expire untill 2014 but I did so anyway)
- reinstall traveler 8.5.3
- delete traveler users (tell traveler delete * username), had to execute the command multiple times to get it to work though
- restart domino server(8.5.3)

But nothing of the above had any effect. Anyone an idea on how to solve this problem?
